How to Customize the Blackened Seasoning

The seasoning as written is on the milder side, but it is customizable! Just change the spices to your taste preference. For example:

    • Reduce or eliminate the salt for a low-sodium version.
    • Add ½-1 teaspoon more cayenne to kick up the spice-level!

    How to use Blackened Seasoning

This seasoning is great for blackening chicken, fish, or shrimp! For one pound of meat, I usually use 1 tablespoon olive oil, and about 1.5-2 tablespoon blackened seasoning.

This is the basic cooking method I use for blackening (using fish for this example):

    • Pat the fish dry.
    • Coat with olive oil.
    • Rub the seasoning on both sides of the fillets.
    • Heat skillet (preferably Cast Iron) on medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter to the pan, wait for the pan to get really HOT.
    • Cook fillets, flipping only once half way through.
    • Serve with lemon wedges!

    Recipes to Try it on:

Make a batch of this Blackened Seasoning and try it out on these recipes! It can be sprinkled on food, used as a dry-rub, or added into sauces to add a little smokiness and spice!

    • Blackened Mahi-Mahi Fish Tacos
    • One-Pot Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta (a lower-fat version)
    • Bacon Wrapped Shrimp (stuffed w/Cheese & Jalapeños)

    Enjoy!
