    Easy Homemade Salted Caramel

This Easy Homemade Salted Caramel recipe is creamy enough to use as a sauce when warmed, and chewy enough to use in desserts when cooled. With just 5 ingredients and less than 15 minutes, you can have this sweet and salty caramel sauce ready!

How to make Easy Homemade Salted Caramel

    • Add the sugar to a large sauce pan, and cook on Medium heat. (It will take a while for you to even see it start to melt, about 5-7 minutes.)
    • Once you start to see parts of it melting, you can stir it a bit. (It will look clumpy, but that's ok!)
    • Once it only has a few clumps left, it will cook fast so do not leave! Keep stirring until it's completely melted, but no longer than that.
    • Quickly add in your butter, and stir just until melted.
    • Slowly add in your heavy cream, about half at a time, mixing throughout. Cook for about 1 minute or less, to thoroughly mix in your cream. (It will bubble quite a bit!)
    • Add in your vanilla, and remove from heat.
    • Add the sea salt and mix. (It should be a nice amber color like the photo below.)
    • Let the caramel cool for about 15 minutes, then pour into a glass jar or Condiment Squeeze Bottle. Now it's ready to use!

It's perfect to use as a drizzle, a dip, or even as a chewy center in desserts (like our Pretzel Oreo Balls)!

    Safety Tips:

    • Use a large sauce pan. The caramel is extremely hot! It will foam up and bubble when adding ingredients, and you don't want any of it getting on you. (Since the larger pan is deeper, it will help prevent it from overflowing.)
    • You can wear oven gloves for protection against splatters.
    • Once the sugar is melted, you have to move quickly to prevent it from burning! So, have all of your ingredients measured out and ready to go on the counter next to you.

    Storage:

    • Fridge: Keep it stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If you want it to easily drizzle, just pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time until warm. It can also be warmed on the stove-top.
    • Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. When ready to use, just thaw it in the fridge overnight.

It may seem like a lot of steps, but it cooks so quickly! Once you've made it a few times, you'll get the hang of it, and will never buy store bought caramel again!
